Bias Media Works Overtime to Dispute Enrile’s Clarifications to Bongbong Marcos

The mainstream media is adamant in intensifying their campaign on ex-PNoy’s opinion. This was after former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile and Bongbong Marcos’ martial law video becomes viral. Enrile clarifies many details in an interview with Marcos that contradict the speculations about his father’s rule.



He believes that they are only aiming to twist what happened during the late Presiden Ferdinand Marcos’ regime to discredit the son. On the other hand, presumptive Vice President Leni Robredo also expresses her dismay on Enrile’s statements.


No Massive Arrests

In Enrile’s interview, he denied 70,00 arrests under Marcos’ rule.

Furthermore, he says that anyone who was arrested was only inconvenienced, but later released. He excepts senator Pepe Diokno who didn’t want to be released.

However, The LP cites the Amnesty International Mission 1982 report. They sum up 50,000 people being detained without charge or trial on only the first three years of Martial Law.

Also in a 1975 mission, the organization finds 6000 people still detained. Out of 107 that they interviewed, 71 says that they have been tortured.

The human rights body only based their data on media reports. No one bothered to check the courts as per Enrile’s challenge.

Many stories of torture also emerged when the Aquino’s administration provided incentives on martial law abuse claimants.

No Massacres

Enrile also claims that Ninoy Aquino only invented the Jabidah Massacre, and no massacres happened during the Martial Law.


However, the LP  claims that Ninoy delivered his privilege speech that exposed the Jabidah massacre after being approached by Jibin Arula who was the lone survivor.

This allegedly also what prompted Nur Misuari to kickstart the Moro separatist movement.

It cannot be denied, however, that the Aquino patriarch’s connivance with the Malaysians is repeated by his son’s allowing the people of the late Sultan Jamalul Kiram to be massacred in Lahad Datu when they simply want to return to their own land, Sabah.

Land Reform Achievement

During the interview, Enrile also praised Marcos for introducing land reform. However, Constitutionalist Christian Monsod says that Marcos’ agrarian reform was still a loss, with his cronies lording over agriculture.

He says that the Rice and Roads program was a good idea but it seemed a form of tokenism to Monsod, with Marcos’ cronies enjoying exemptions.

According to many reports, one of the alleged cronies of Marcos is a Cojuangco. This makes the LP’s story a bit unbelievable.

The Oligarchs

Marcos is also quoted in the interview saying, “We were beginning to hear my father speaking out against the group of oligarchs that were controlling many segments of the economy and were not helping or supporting the national programs.”

The LP argues that Marcos installed his cronies in media outlets and major businesses and empowered them.

If this is so, why the giant media, oil, and telecommunication monopolies among others are controlled by the allies of the opposition?

LP’s Media Disputes Nuclear Energy Source’s Story

Enrile also claims that it was because of Cory Aquino’s anger that the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant was derailed.


The LP, however, argues that it was mothballed because of the disaster that happened to Chernobyl in 1986 as well as the Fukushima Nuclear Plant in 2011.

Many young Filipinos may not witness the real score of the Marcos regime or the so-called Golden Age. Nevertheless, many of them are already around during the two regimes of the Aquinos. They can judge better.
